I just worked with one of my coaching clients to help them adopt Todoist over their previously paper “to do” lists. I love this tool. Todoist is one of the leading productivity apps globally, with millions of users across personal and business sectors. It’s a great task management solution and works well for organizing tasks within projects, too.
Here’s a link if you’ve never seen the product before: https://todoist.com/ and there’s even a free version!
Speaking of GTD, I have a one day Getting Things Done public seminar coming up at the end of the month. I limit these public seminars to 12 folks, but we upped it to 16 to accommodate an existing client who needed to onboard some new hires. I’ll try to post when future seminars get scheduled. Typically, I do those in Denver but I’ve delivered two public seminars in other cities so far. Demand creates opportunity, so if you’re interested… let me know!
I not only do coaching on productivity, right now I’m doing an interesting consolidation project for a client. I’m going through something like 15 years of business records and condensing that to ‘what they need to keep’. Generally, the rule for tax records and supporting documentation is 10 years since that’s how far back the IRS can collect taxes. (You can find more info from the IRS here.) But there’s a host of other records that merit keeping. Luckily for this client — and you — a lot of old records can be trashed.
That consolidation project is nothing however compared to a business merger I did a few years back. Imagine two businesses, one operating since 1973 and the other since 1990, combining operations, product offerings, personnel, facilities, and records. Yeah. It took a little over four months and I think it was one of the bigger projects I’ve done since launching my company in 2006.
Two of my collabs are demanding a lot of attention right now and I hope to announce that soon (maybe as early as next month) I’m going to have a podcast with one of the most interesting guys I’ve never actually met. True story: we were both users and champions of the social media scheduling company Buffer and we met on a Slack channel Buffer’s social outreach team had established for its user community. Long story short: we have an app development shop and we’re seriously thinking about a podcast. I know, I know… everybody and their dog has a podcast. My counterpoint: everybody has a webpage but that didn’t stop me from putting this one up. Anyway, we hope to have one listener in our first six months. You may think that’s a joke, but it’s the goal. Actually, I have no idea what to expect. Maybe we’ll surpass our goal and end up with two listeners.
My other collab is part passion project / part an effort borne out of frustration. I love everything about living spaces… architecture, interior design, as well as landscaping and gardening. I’ve done about 30 projects in my spare time and I work with a couple of local construction groups. I’m sort of branching out and this summer, I’m going to have an intern working with me. I just finished my own kitchen and I’m getting ready to do more in my own home. (For once, the cobbler’s children are getting shoes!)
